Sawtell is a picturesque beach village, 10km south of Coffs Harbour. It is far enough away to enjoy its own identity and at the same time benefit from South Coff's university, airport, new hospital and international stadium facilities.
A local tribe of Aborigines, the Kumbaingeri, gave Sawtell the name of Bongil Bongil which has since been given to the national park of wetlands which buffer Sawtell's southern perimeter. These wetlands feed Pine Creek and Boambee Creek, which are two very important fish breeding areas.

Sawtell's northern perimeter is defined by the Boambee Creek and scenic headland lookout which boasts perfect whale watching in winter. You can take a walk around the headland for some spectacular views. The Boambee Creek Reserve is a great spot for a picnic offering a kiosk, swimming holes, toilets, and shelters with gas barbeques. Another great place to meet and chill out.

The beautiful divided main street with it's fantastic fig trees contributes to the town's "beach village" atmosphere. There are individual shops, cafes, restaurants and drinking holes (heritage hotel, bowling club, RSL club) with people utilising the takeaway hamburger, pizza or fish & chip shops and sitting under the oasis of the shady fig trees in the median strip to relax. The surf club also has a cafe with a view of the surf.

The local cinema takes you back in time because it has been lovingly restored to it's former glory and heritage. It shows current movies, old favourites and the International film festival which creates a lot of interest.
Sawtell is a popular tourist destination, because of the temperate climate and holiday facilities. Our B&B accommodation is within walking distance to the village centre, beaches and creeks.
You will find numerous sporting facilities including golfing, bowling, boating, croquet, tennis, swimming, BMX and fishing. Sawtell also boasts famous surfing spots like Trapdoors, Murrays, the track and Southies for the keen board riders, depending on the seas. If surfing is not your scene, there is a calm bay and the wonderful rock pool at the southern end of the beach.
With it’s long sandy beaches, and proximity to rainforests and natural parks, Sawtell is an ideal holiday destination, and a central base to explore the surrounding area.
A short 5 minuted drive away is the suburb of Toormina, where you will find the brand new Centra Shopping Centre should you desire any retail therapy. With a Coles supermarket, a giant Woolworths, K-Mart (opening in October 2008), Sanity, Rockmans,Best and Less, Crazy Prices, Blooms Chemist and numerous boutique outlets, there is not much to miss out on.
